Elderly Man Loses £65,000 to Crypto Scammers in Sophisticated Fraud Scheme
An elderly man was defrauded of over £65,000 in a multi-layered cryptocurrency scam. Initially, he lost £14,500 to fraudulent actors. Later, a caller posing as a representative from a financial services firm—identifying himself as Gabriel—exploited the victim''s vulnerability, claiming to recover the lost funds.
The scammer employed relentless tactics, contacting the victim incessantly, even during a holiday in Gran Canaria. Despite blocking the number, the fraudster persisted with alternate contact methods. "He sounded so professional, almost to the point of being totally arrogant. I ended up believing him," the victim admitted.
Authorities confirm the scammer falsely asserted the existence of an untouched crypto account in the victim’s name. The case underscores the risks of recovery scams targeting distressed investors.
